Abi Cherian, a seasoned Registered Social Worker specializing in the Medical and Psychiatric fields, draws profound inspiration from Richard Bach’s evocative words: “What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly.”
Abi empathizes with the profound weight of mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and addiction, which often veil one’s inner turmoil in silence. Understanding that emotions can often overwhelm to the point of hindering verbal expression, Abi’s therapeutic approach is deeply rooted in a relationship-centred strategy, urging clients to confront their needs candidly.
By creating a nurturing space where diverse forms of expression are welcomed, Abi provides a soothing balm, easing the burden of anxiety and depression symptoms. Specializing in individual therapy, Abi addresses a wide spectrum of concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma, anger management, and relationship dynamics.
Whether triggered by life’s sudden upheavals, complex familial dynamics, profound grief, or pervasive feelings of anxiety and depression, Abi extends a compassionate hand to guide clients towards a more stable equilibrium. With eager anticipation, Abi embarks on each therapeutic journey, dedicated to facilitating healing and self-discovery alongside those seeking solace and growth.

Hi, I’m glad you’re here.
I believe therapy works best when it feels like a genuine partnership. I take a client-centered approach, which means I see you as the expert on your own life. My role is to walk alongside you—to explore, reflect, and support your growth, whatever that may look like for you.
My background is diverse, and that journey ultimately led me to this work. I began with a Master’s Degree in Physical Education in 1999, focused on sport and mental performance. Life then led me into a nearly 20-year career in frontline and leadership roles with one of Canada’s top airlines. In 2016, I made the leap back to school to complete my Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology and eventually transitioned out of aviation. I’ve since been practicing as a Registered Clinical Counsellor here in BC.
In my practice, I support people navigating trauma and PTSD, anxiety, life transitions, stress, self-esteem, relationship challenges, and that all-too-familiar feeling of being “stuck.” I specialize in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and use it often—whether it’s to heal trauma or help high-performing athletes, including Olympians, move through performance blocks.
This work is personal and deeply meaningful to me. It’s a privilege to be invited into people’s stories. If you’re thinking about taking that first step, I’d be honoured to connect and see if we’re a good fit.

People often seek therapy because their old ways of coping with life are no longer working. There is an inner knowing that something is not quite right and that we are not fully living. I have found in many years of clinical practice, study and inner work that we all have significant blind spots that keep us trapped in old behaviours, moods, and relationship patterns. Many of us have outdated views of ourselves, created in early life, that are limiting and distorted. Our symptoms, patterns and compulsions have been our best attempts to cope however have created blocks to truly feeling alive and connected. Therapy can be a place to process and understand how past life events and relationships are showing up in the here and now. Therapy can also be a space to allow yourself to get really honest about your feelings, suffering or those parts of yourself and life that feel hard to face alone. These huge tasks require a skilled therapist to help you gain insight and shine a light on those hidden factors that are preventing you from living in accordance with your own unique nature. I have a lifelong dedication to this work and I bring this humility, wisdom and openness to my practice.
